A. Mystery of the Formation of Kastoba Lake
Behind the beauty of Kastoba Lake Bawean, there is a mystical event regarding the formation of Kastoba Lake.
According to folklore that has developed in the Bawean community, Kastoba Lake was formed due to the anger of the King of Jin who guarded the area because of a crow who accidentally told a blind man that the sap from the Kastoba tree could cure blind people, because the blind man was right under the Kastoba tree, then the blind man plucked the leaves of the Kastoba tree and accidentally the sap from the Kastoba tree leaves hit the blind man's eyes, so that the blind man miraculously could see again.
The blind man then shouted and thanked the crow who had told him that the sap from the Kastoba tree leaves could cure his eyes, from that incident the King of Jin who guarded the Kastoba tree heard it, making the King of Jin angry and then uprooting the Kastoba tree and throwing it, then the crow was expelled from Bawean Island by the King of Jin, therefore crows are not found on Bawean Island.
From the remains of the tree, a very large spring emerged and then became a lake, which was then called Lake Kastoba by the local community.
